Weddings are fucking cool, but pre-wedding pics? They can feel kinda lame. There’s this weird obsession with making everything look flawless, like the couple is straight out of a magazine.

Wedding photographers in Hong Kong have gotten bored of this and scaled back to gritty 80s film photography, inspired by the amazing Wong Kar Wai.

This style of photography has been on my radar for years and has become a huge influence for my own work. There’s something incredibly striking about seeing two people in love, dressed in their pristine wedding finery, in the middle of a cramped corner restaurant or weaving through a bustling street.
